Lime in the water .... it's the soil layers that make the difference
It is especially eastern Denmark that has hard and calcareous water. But also the most densely populated areas in Jutland and on Funen have harder water than the average. According to the Drinking Water Order, which establishes quality requirements for the tap water, the water should have a hardness of between 5 and 35 degrees of hardness (hD).

In the metropolitan area, the level is on average about 22 Dh, but in western counties the level is actually above the recommended 30 hD, shows figures from Geus. In practice, this means that citizens of eastern Denmark must use more soap and detergent than the West Jutland.

The Danish tap water is picked up by thousands of different waterworks around the country. The difference in the lime content is due to the soil layers through which the groundwater penetrates, and in the east of Denmark the water is collected from very calcareous aquifers.

At all coffee machines and espresso machines, it is strongly recommended to install a lime filter.
