VOLA designed in 1968

The first VOLA fittings were designed for the National Bank in Copenhagen by Arne Jacobsen.

A hallmark of Arne Jacobsen's work was that all superfluous elements were cut away. Simplicity and unity of expression were his aim. He therefore found the idea of a completely new type of fitting interesting and offered to continue developing the design of the fitting itself.

When the need for accessories for the National Bank arose, Arne Jacobsen wanted accessories that matched the fittings in style so the interior would appear as a whole. This initiated a fruitful collaboration between designer and manufacturer.

After Arne Jacobsen's death, VOLA A/S continued the collaboration with Teit Weylandt, who had worked for Arne Jacobsen. Later, Carsten Overgaard began a collaboration with Aarhus Arkitekterne A/S to further develop the VOLA range.

Link Arkitektur, formerly Aarhus Arkitekterne, has designed VOLA Academy, VOLA showrooms and VOLA products since 2006

Link Arkitektur designed the renovation of VOLA's company headquarters in Horsens in 1998 and also the extension in 2003. Link Arkitektur designed the VOLA showroom in Amsterdam in 2005, the VOLA showroom in Vienna in 2007, the international VOLA showroom in London in 2009, the VOLA showroom in Pakhus 48 in Copenhagen in 2009 as well as the VOLA showrooms in Munich 2011, Shanghai 2012 and Stockholm 2014. VOLA Academy in Horsens, inaugurated in 2008, was also designed by Link Arkitektur:

The design department at Link Arkitektur often supports the firm's architectural projects with interior design and the design of elements for the buildings, and the design department also has specific assignments for various manufacturers. For example, Torben Madsen and Mogens Kristensen won a competition announced by the Danish Design Center in 1998 for a new wood-burning stove for Hwam Heat Design with the WALL stove design, which later received the international design prize, the Red Dot Award.

In 2006 the design team designed a floor-mounted fitting for VOLA, FS1. In 2008 they created a freestanding fitting, FS2, a freestanding shower, FS3, and a towel warmer T39 for VOLA. In 2010 they began, together with VOLA's technicians, to work on solutions for built-in waste bins and paper dispensers and ended up with an entirely new round series, RS1, RS2, RS3 and RS4, which was expanded with a touchless soap dispenser RS10 in 2013. The round overhead shower 060 was created in 2012, followed by the round overhead shower and a spa series in 2015.
